Jivan Adapts Software to Support NextGen Sequencing

(December 08, 2008) – Jivan Biologics Inc. announced today that it is adapting its software for alternative splicing to support the next generation of high throughput sequencing. A prototype containing the new software features is currently being tested.

As the cost of high-throughput sequencing continues to drop, it is becoming possible to measure expression of splice variants as well as gene transcription levels using deep sequencing. Splice isoforms can lead to structurally and functionally distinct proteins from the same gene. They can arise as a result of genetic mutations (SNPs) or independently of them. Recent data suggests that 94% of all human genes undergo alternative splicing.

Jivan's software for alternative splicing will enable sensitive detection of splice isoforms from NextGen sequencing.
